Te Pou Oranga Whaiora | Casual/On-call
Te āheinga - The opportunity:
To provide culturally safe, holistic nursing care within a kaupapa Māori framework to whaiora undergoing methamphetamine recovery at Te Whare Ora o Kōpūārau.
This role sits within an iwi‑led service delivered by Te Pou Oranga o Te Whakatōhea, in collaboration with the Eastern Bay Iwi Provider Alliance – including Tūwharetoa ki Kāwerau, Tūhoe Hauora, and Te Tohu o Te Ora o Ngāti Awa – working collectively to provide kaupapa Māori‑based healing and support for whānau impacted by methamphetamine harm.
As a Residential Registered Nurse, you will play a vital role in supporting the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing of whaiora, integrating Māori values, Te Ao Māori worldviews, and best‑practice clinical care. You’ll work alongside a passionate multidisciplinary team committed to restoring mana, strengthening whānau connections, and supporting sustainable recovery.
Possible shifts (approximate pending final roster sign off):

6.00am - 2.30pm - Monday to Friday

2.00pm - 10.30pm - Monday to Friday

10.00pm - 6.30am - Monday to Friday on-call and a 24/7 variations of on-call weekend shifts
Ngā Kawenga me ngā Mahi – Duties & responsibilities:

Complete comprehensive clinical and cultural assessments on admission and throughout care.

Develop and implement recovery and treatment plans in partnership with the wider team.

Provide safe medication administration, clinical interventions, and withdrawal monitoring.

Respond to medical concerns, assess risk, and manage emergencies.

Maintain accurate clinical documentation and uphold best‑practice nursing standards.

Deliver care embedded in tikanga Māori, supporting safe cultural practices in the whare.

Engage whānau as active partners in the whaiora journey.

Contribute to programme delivery, education, and workshops.

Participate in quality improvement, audits, and policy development.
Ngā wheako me ngā pūkenga - Experience & Skills required:
-
Current New Zealand Registered Nurse (RN) qualification with a current Annual Practising Certificate.

Experience in addiction, mental health, or community nursing is highly desirable.

Knowledge of kaupapa Māori principles and practices, with a commitment to working withing a Māori framework.

Effective communication and people skills, with the ability to build rapport with residents and whānau.

Competence in te reo Māori and an understanding of Māori culture is an advantage but not essential.

Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Ability to work flexible hours, including on-call weekends and evening if required.

Holds a full and clean current New Zealand or relevant driver’s license.
