Registered Nurses - Multiple Roles

Te āheinga - The opportunity:

We are building a dynamic nursing workforce to support our expanding health services. We have full-time, part-time, and casual opportunities for Registered Nurses, Enrolled Nurses, and a Nurse Advisor across a range of settings:

  • Whakatōhea Health Centre – Our central hub for primary care and integrated health services.

  • General Medicine – Everyday healthcare for adults, including diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of common illnesses and chronic conditions.

  • After Hours Medical Hub (Pou Ora) – Nurse led, and GP advised urgent care services outside normal clinic hours.

  • Day Space Medical Hub (Waka Ora) – Nurse led, and GP advised accessible daytime care for acute and ongoing health needs.

  • Mental Health – Supporting individuals and whānau with mental health needs and addiction recovery.

  • Pre- and Post-Methamphetamine Residential Facility – Providing care and support for recovery and rehabilitation.

  • Community Health – Delivering care in homes and community settings to improve health outcomes.

  • Well Child/Tamariki Ora – Health checks and education for pēpi and tamariki to ensure healthy development.

  • Rheumatic Fever Programme – Screening, prevention, and treatment to protect whānau from rheumatic fever.

New Initiative: We are introducing a Nurse Advisor role to oversee and support our nursing workforce. This role will help create opportunities for nurses to rotate across departments, share knowledge, and learn alongside each other—building a collaborative, skilled, and adaptable team. Whether you’re an experienced nurse or just starting your career, we have roles that will challenge, inspire, and grow your skills.

 

 Ngā Kawenga me ngā Mahi – Duties & responsibilities:

  Depending on your role, you may:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care across general medicine, mental health, and community settings.

  • Perform urgent triage and emergency interventions, including resuscitation, stabilisation, cannulation, and wound care.

  • Conduct systematic health assessments, using evidence-based tools and protocols.

  • Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately, following standing orders and clinical guidelines.

  • Support chronic condition management, including diabetes, cardiovascular health, and respiratory conditions.

  • Deliver immunisation programmes and health screening initiatives.

  • Educate and empower whānau through health promotion, lifestyle advice, and disease prevention strategies.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including doctors, allied health professionals, and social services, to ensure holistic care.

  • Participate in mental health and addiction recovery services, providing therapeutic support and advocacy.

  • Maintain accurate documentation in line with privacy and confidentiality standards.

  • Contribute to quality improvement, policy development, and clinical audits to enhance service delivery.

  • Engage in cultural practices and uphold Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles in all aspects of care.

  • Mentor and support colleagues, sharing knowledge and fostering a collaborative learning environment.

 

Ngā wheako me ngā pūkenga - Experience & Skills required:

  • Registered Nurse qualification and Health Practitioner Index (HPI) number with a current practising certificate in New Zealand (Registered Nurse or Enrolled Nurse).

  • Graduate Nurses, looking for new career opportunities, in collaboration with a mentor.

  • Clinical competence in primary care, mental health, community nursing, or acute care settings.

  • Experience in urgent triage and emergency response, including resuscitation, stabilisation, and cannulation.

  • Knowledge of chronic disease management, immunisation programmes, and health screening protocols.

  • Ability to work across multiple services, adapting to different clinical environments and patient needs.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to build trust with patients, whānau, and colleagues.

  • Cultural competence, including understanding Te Tiriti o Waitangi principles and delivering culturally safe care.

  • Collaborative mindset for working in multidisciplinary teams and supporting integrated health and social services.

  • Commitment to professional development, including participation in peer review and ongoing education.

  • Flexibility and resilience to manage changing priorities and rotating across departments.

  • Leadership potential for mentoring and supporting colleagues, especially under the Nurse Advisor initiative.
