Reporting to the Communications Manager with the support of the Events and Community Engagement Coordinator, we are seeking casual Events Support Workers to join our team during an exciting period of growth for Whakatōhea. This role is perfect for someone who enjoys practical, hands-on work and wants to be part of events that bring our whānau, hapū, iwi, and community together.
As an Events Support Worker, you will play a key role in the successful delivery of events by assisting with setup, pack-down, and logistics. You will help create safe, well-presented spaces for celebrations, hui, and community activations that reflect our tikanga and values.
Ngā Kawenga me ngā Mahi – Duties & responsibilities:

Event Setup and Pack-down: Prepare venues by arranging furniture, laying carpets, and setting up décor. Assist with installing audio-visual equipment, lighting, staging elements, and temporary structures such as marquees and pop-up tents.

Ensure health and safety compliance.

Event Logistics: Support with on-site tasks, including transporting equipment fixtures and furnishings, running errands, and assisting vendors. Monitor event spaces to ensure they remain tidy, safe, and well-presented throughout the event.

Conduct inventory checks.
Ngā wheako me ngā pūkenga - Experience & Skills required:

Previous experience in event setup, logistics, or similar manual handling roles (preferred but not essential).

Physical fitness and ability to lift, carry, and move heavy items safely.

Reliability and time management – punctual, dependable, and able to respond promptly to casual shift offers.

Teamwork and communications – able to follow instructions and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Understanding safe lifting practices and willingness to participate in any training provided.

Full NZ Class 1 Driver's License and confidence towing trailers or transporting equipment.

Problem-solving skills and the ability to identify and address minor issues on-site without escalation.

Respect for Tikanga and ability to engage positively with whānau, hapū, iwi, and community partners.

Basic ability to use email and scheduling tools for shift communication.

Comfortable working outdoors in varying weather conditions and flexible with early mornings, evenings, and weekend shifts.
