Residential Nurse - Registered

Te āheinga - The opportunity:

To provide culturally safe, holistic nursing care within a kaupapa Māori framework to residents undergoing methamphetamine rehabilitation. The Residential Nurse will play a vital role in supporting the physical, mental, and spiritual health of residents, integrating Māori values and practices in all aspects of care.

 

Ngā Kawenga me ngā Mahi – Duties & responsibilities:

  • Conduct comprehensive health assessments upon admission and regularly throughout the resident’s stay.

  • Administer medications and treatments in accordance with best practices and relevant guidelines.

  • Monitor residents for withdrawal symptoms, manage medical emergencies and provide appropriate interventions.

  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all clinical activities.

  • Deliver care that is consistent with tikanga Māori, incorporating Māori Health models such as Te Whare Tapa Whā or Ki te whai ao, ki te ao marama.

  • Engage with Whanau in the care process, respecting and integrating their input and cultural values.

  • Work closely with other health professionals, including addictions specialists, social workers, and counsellors to provide comprehensive care.

  • Participate in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to enhance the quality of care.

 

Ngā wheako me ngā pūkenga - Experience & Skills required:

  • Current New Zealand Registered Nurse (RN) qualification with a current Annual Practising Certificate.

  • Experience in addiction, mental health, or community nursing is highly desirable.

  • Knowledge of kaupapa Māori principles and practices, with a commitment to working withing a Māori framework.

  • Effective communication and people skills, with the ability to build rapport with residents and whānau.

  • Competence in te reo Māori and an understanding of Māori culture is an advantage but not essential.

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

  • Ability to work flexible hours, including on-call weekends and evening if required.

  • Holds a full and clean current New Zealand or relevant driver’s license.
