Clinical Lead - AOD Clinician

Te āheinga - The opportunity:

Seeking a passionate and experienced Clinical Lead / AOD Clinician to join our team at Te Whare Ora o Kōpūārau, our pre- and post-methamphetamine residential facility. This role is pivotal in leading clinical practice and supporting whaiora (clients) through their recovery journey using kaupapa Māori approaches.

You will oversee clinical standards, guide practitioners, and ensure care aligns with the Pou Oranga Whaiora Model of Care. You’ll also provide direct AOD clinical services, support whānau, and collaborate across the Iwi Alliance to reduce methamphetamine harm in our rohe.

Ngā Kawenga me ngā Mahi – Duties & responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise clinical practice across the team by providing guidance, mentoring and oversight. Foster a culture of excellence, accountability, and kaupapa Māori practice.

  • Provide AOD clinical services and manage cases through comprehensive assessments, care planning, and therapeutic interventions tailored to whaiora needs.

  • Monitor and audit care quality using Ara Whanui and other tools. Regularly evaluate clinical documentation, service delivery, and outcomes to ensure alignment with best practice.

  • Collaborate with whānau and interagency partners, working closely with whānau, hapū, iwi, and external agencies to create wrap-around support systems.

  • Ensure culturally safe, kaupapa Māori care delivery by embedding tikanga, mātauranga Māori, and Te Ao Māori principles into all aspects of clinical practice.

  • Support staff development and contribute to service innovation identifying training needs, encouraging reflective practices, and fostering continuous improvement.

Ngā wheako me ngā pūkenga - Experience & Skills required:

  • Relevant clinical qualification in addiction, mental health, or a related clinical field and registration with a professional body, (DAPAANZ, NZAC).

  • Minimum 3+ years’ experience in AOD, mental health, or kaupapa Māori health services bringing a strong understanding of the challenges faced by whaiora.

  • Strong understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi and mātauranga Māori, with the ability to apply these principles in clinical decision making, service design, and whānau engagement.

  • Skilled in assessment, care planning, and whānau engagement bringing confidence in conducting comprehensive assessments, developing recovery plans, and working collaboratively with whaiora and whānau.

  • Competent in client database systems and Microsoft Office 365 Suite, familiarity with Ara Whanui or similar is an advantage.

  • Full and clean NZ driver’s license to support outreach and interagency collaboration across the rohe.
