Te āheinga - The opportunity:
Reporting to the Finance Manager, the Accountant is responsible for collecting, analysing, recording, and reporting on the Organisations financial data. Ensuring compliance with rules and regulations to assist the Finance Manager, CFO, CEO and Board to make data-driven strategic decisions.
Ngā Kawenga me ngā Mahi – Duties & responsibilities:

Oversee all accounting processes within the Organisation and provide oversight and support to the finance team with processing and reconciliation.

Analyse business unit performance to budget and report on improvements and efficiencies.

Assist with audits, tax filings and financial reports.

Budget preparation and analysis.

Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements reconciling bank statements, accounts, and financial discrepancies.

Ensure compliance with GAAP, IFRS, and NZ tax regulations.

Identify potential areas for improvement in accounting procedures and internal controls.
Ngā wheako me ngā pūkenga - Experience & Skills required:

Bachelor's degree, or in Business or Commerce, majoring in accounting.

Previous experience and registered as a Chartered Accountant (CA) or a Certified Practicing Accountant (CPA).

Sector-specific knowledge will be highly regarded:
-
Accounting practices in primary industries such as dairy kiwifruit and aquaculture.
-
Familiarity with government funding and reporting requirements in education and health services.
-
Not-for-profit, charitable, and commercial financial management, compliance, and reporting standards.

Accounting for joint ventures, and partnerships, including profit sharing.

Grant management and funding compliance.

Sound knowledge and understanding of accounting theory, concepts, and principles, combined with proven practical skills in financial and cost accounting reporting, business planning, work programming, budgeting, fiscal management, audit, and ledgers.

Strong problem solving, conceptual, and analytical skills with excellent attention to detail.

Proven experience with financial systems, or ERP software, including but not limited to Xero, MYOB, SAP etc. As well as intermediate to advanced Excel skills.

Experience working in a Māori or Iwi Organisation, with an understanding of tikanga will be highly regarded.
