Te Pou Oranga o Whakatōhea Operations Manager

Te āheinga - The opportunity:

Reporting to the CEO the Operations Manager is a Senior Leader and is responsible for managing Te Pou Oranga o Whakatōhea (social, health and education services) by ensuring the business operations run smoothly, purposefully and efficiently, whilst contribution to TToTW’s overall strategic and financial goals. 

This is a senior role within a charitable arm of TToTW and currently holds our largest workforce, it is complex and diverse in nature and operation overseeing Social and Health Services (WISH), the Whakatōhea Health Centre, Education (Workforce Development and Early Education Centre) and Te Pou Oranga Whaiora (24 hour pre and post facility and community team) and liaises externally with whānau, hapū, iwi, marae, EBPHA, DHB, GP, Schools, ECE, PTE, local authorities, community and central government agencies and internally with Directors, and the Board. 

Ngā Kawenga me ngā Mahi – Duties & responsibilities:

  • Review, monitor and achieve strategic goals and objectives. 

  • Execute strategies that improve operations, productivity, performance and efficiency. 

  • Oversee and monitor the financial management in conjunction with the CFO and Finance (financial planning, annual budgets, cash flow and capex allocation). 

  • Work in conjunction with other senior leaders and managers to ensure compliance across human resources, quality, processes and policies.

  • Monitor contractual agreements and obligations to ensure compliance, secure funding opportunities to grow the business and limit risk. 

  • Provide comprehensive political, social, health and education analysis and monitor risk and compliance. 

  • Report at and attend Te Pou Oranga o Whakatōhea Board Meetings. 

  • Advocate the interests of the Organisation at local, regional and nationwide level and develop and maintain strategic alliances. 

Ngā wheako me ngā pūkenga - Experience & Skills required:

  • Qualifications in Health, Education or Social Development. 

  • 10+ years working in a senior executive level role within health, education or social services (Clinical, public sector, government, charitable and or Iwi organisations are highly regarded). 

  • Proven management and leadership skills, managing senior leaders across multiple departments or sectors. 

  • Proven success in formulating and driving short-term and long-term strategies, frameworks, structures and policies. 

  • Ability to work with key stakeholders, Directors, Boards, community groups, government agencies, education centres and local authorities. 

  • Has a good understanding of tikanga, hapū and iwi relationships, the ability to demonstrate cultural principles and values, and understanding of Te Reo (preferrable, not essential). 

  • An understanding of local and central politics and can engage with Ministers in a professional manner.
