Kaupapa Māori Cultural Support
Cultural & Clinical Practitioner
Te āheinga - The opportunity:
Working within Te Pou Oranga o Whakatōhea at Te Whare Ora o Kōpūārau, our pre and post methamphetamine facility, the Kaupapa Māori Cultural Support is responsible for providing cultural guidance and support to individuals and groups within the service. This role is designed to enhance the understanding and implementation of Kaupapa Māori principles, ensuring that cultural practices, values, and perspectives are respected and integrated into the service.
Ngā Kawenga me ngā Mahi Duties & responsibilities:

Provide advice and support on Kaupapa Māori practices and protocols within the service for the whaiora and employees.

Assist in the planning and execution of culturally significant events and ceremonies.

Represent the service at events and forums.

Offer cultural mentorship to staff.

Participate in wananga for whaiora to support their recovery.

Assist in conflict resolution and mediation using a Kaupapa Māori approach.

Build and maintain relationships with the communities and Iwi that Whakatōhea work with.

Offer guidance on cultural sensitivity and inclusivity.
Ngā wheako me ngā pūkenga Experience & Skills required:
-
Fluent in Te Reo Māori with an excellent knowledge of Whakatōhea, Ngati Awa, Tuhoe and Tūwharetoa ki Kawerau tikanga and kawa.

Understands Kaupapa Māori models of care e.g. Karakia, whanaungatanga, manaakitanga, mirimiri and Rongoā.

Competent in Ki te whai ao ki te ao Mārama model of care and you can skilfully train on the model of care with staff.

Effective communication skills.

First Aid Certificate.

Holds a current full and clean New Zealand or relevant driver’s license.
