Ara Mai Whakatohea: Strategic Plan 2009 - 2013

Ka ao, ka ea, ka awatea

Light dawns, it is a new day

This Strategic Plan sets the direction for the Trust Board so that the Board can support the people of Whakatōhea to build a united and progressive Whakatōhea nation.

Our Board is committed to making positive progress and realizes that it is not just what we do as a Board but how we do it that matters.  The Board is determined to work together as a team to serve our whānau and hapū, to support them to achieve their aspirations, and to foster a strong and vibrant Whakatōheatanga.

We need to ensure that our current and future assets are in safe hands and that our future generations will benefit from the decisions we make today.  Protecting and growing our cultural assets, natural assets and economic assets are important to us.  While these assets are important, we realize that our people are our greatest asset - He Tangata, mai te iti ki te rahi. We cannot lose sight of this.

This Board aims to strengthen the trust between the Trust Board and our Hapū through good communications and transparent decision-making.  This plan also signals the Board’s desire to establish a new Whakatōhea entity that will replace the Trust Board so that Whakatōhea can determine and manage its own future.

This is a time now for healing and moving forward;  Tāwharaua Whakatōhea.

Robert Edwards
Chairman
