What is Family Start?
Family Start is a home visiting programme that focuses on improving children's growth and health, learning and relationships, family circumstances, environment and safety. It helps families/whānau who are struggling with challenges or problems that may make it harder for them to care for their baby or young child. We want to help give children the best start in life it can be a challenge when having a baby but getting help during the hard times can be really important to nurture the whole whānau. Family Start is a service provided by Te Pou Oranga O Whakatōhea. The qualified team members will provide a confidential and private service that is tailored to address and meet the specific needs of each whānau we work with. We pride ourselves on delivering a quality of services and empowering our whānau to attain and maintain optimal health and well-being. What is The Well Child Tamariki Ora Programme? Well Child/Tamariki Ora is a free service provided by The Ministry of Health for all New Zealand children from birth to 5 years. Well Child can support you to protect and improve your child’s health, so they can grow and develop to their full potential Well Child services are provided by a number of people. These include: Lead maternity carers (LMCs- includes midwives, obstetricians and general practitioners) Registered nurses, Nurse practitioners, General practitioners, Paediatricians, Community health workers, Karitane and Kaiāwhina, Vision and hearing technicians (VHTs),Newborn hearing screeners, Authorised vaccinators.
